1. c. A male patient with dysuria and frequency of micturition.

 

A 35 years male presents with dysuria, frequency of micturation and lower abdominal discomfort for 3 days. He is diabetic for 2 years and well controlled with oral hypoglycaemic drugs.

 

What is the diagnosis striking in your mind?

Acute cystitis (UTI)

What key questions would you ask?

 Burning or scalding sensation during micturition

Increased frequency of micturition

Lower abdominal pain or discomfort

H/O Sexual exposure

Regarding control and complication of diabetes

 

What will you examine?

Examination may be normal other than suprapubic tenderness.

 

Investigations-

          Urine for R/M/E- presence of pus cells

RBS

USG of KUB

Other essential investigations- MSU (midstream urine) for culture and sensitivity (usually not available in primary and secondary level)

 

Treatment-

Ciprofloxacin- 500 mg every 12 hours orally for 10 days

Or

Ofloxacin- 200 mg every 12 hours orally for 10 days

Plenty of fluid by mouth.
